San Francisco paintings

A series of paintings unfolded organically during my 2010-11 residency at Root Division, San Francisco. Inspired by the history’s psychedelic art and beautiful muted colours of Victorian and Edwardian architecture. The facades, sometimes pristine and sometimes weathered, embodied a cognisance of the city’s physical language that spoke of geometry, colour and the metaphysical construct of balance and harmony.

The works are situated within the spiritual context of the Bay Area’s west coast consciousness and some of its artists who explored elements of the counter-culture and both lyrical and formal abstraction.

This series of work became the synthesis of an exhibition titled ‘Facades and Fading’ in 2011 at Factory 49, Sydney.
